Carbon Steel Course

Duration: 6 days — Monday through Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM

In the carbon steel course, you will learn how to make a Hunter Swedge Point through stock removal, as well as the forge welding of billets for a full-tang knife. The focus is on teaching the correct fundamentals of geometry and finishing, avoiding low-profit processes for beginners.

Schedule:

  • Day 1: project design, profiling, and initial machining.
→ Ricasso on line, distal taper, tang, finger choil, blade ready for quenching.

  • Day 2: heat treatment (normalizing + quenching). While the blade tempers, forge welding of billets.
→ De-hardening if necessary, straightening, realignment, and edge geometry.

  • Day 3: hand sanding up to 320 grit, start of sharpening, sanding at 600 grit, rounding of the finger choil, and beginning of the guard.

  • Day 4: completion of the guard, start of the pistol grip handle (drilling, fitting, symmetry, and alignment).

  • Day 5: completion of the handle.

  • Day 6: final finishing + photos of the pieces.

⚠️Note: sheath making is not included.

Damascus Steel Course

Duration: 8 days — from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM (Sunday off)

In the Damascus course, the student forges a Damascus Hunter Swedge Point—considered a mini Bowie. Anyone who learns to make this piece correctly will be able to apply the technique to any knife.

During the classes, you will learn:

  • Initial discussion on Damascus theory and practice

  • Billet assembly, welding, and forge welding

  • Layer multiplication and new forge welding

  • Die forging and blade opening

  • Normalizing, scale removal, and machining

  • Exclusive alignment system that keeps the blade straight from start to finish

  • Heat treatment and correct Hunter edge geometry

  • Hand sanding and Damascus etching

  • Machining and fitting of the guard using an exclusive method

  • Guard bonding and handle assembly with an easy-symmetry system

  • Pre-sharpening, contrast enhancement, and handle finishing

⚠️ Note: sheath making is not included.

⚠️'Important highlight: in December of this year, there will be a new Damascus steel course featuring a full-tang chef’s knife!!!"
